Beavertail Skiffs Mosquito, Everglades perfection

Share this post on:

The Beavertail Mosquito came about based on years of input from Beavertail guides and owners and then sitting down with a clean-sheet of paper and re-imagining the technical poling skiff for today’s generation of anglers.

The Mosquito’s primary function is to operate silently, stalking fish in shallow water.  At 18’2” in length and with a 70″ beam the Mosquito is also a very capable hull for many other situations.  The Mosquito features a dazzling array of options; from power  to cockpit configurations.  Of course, the signature flared bow and integrated spray rails also guarantee a super dry ride.

Avid Everglades Angler & Explorer Joe Garcia shared this on his recent Beavertail Mosquito:

Our search for a skiff started about five years ago when my fiancé took seriously to fishing, especially her love for the Everglades backcountry. Our needs for a skiff to comfortably take us on potential 75-80 miles round trip runs into the Everglades was crucial. We looked at main skiff builders along with new up and coming builders, some in Florida some outside of Florida. In the end we started narrowing our search to include only Florida builders because wet testing and accessibility would be important during the build. Our consideration was for a skiff in the 16 to 18 foot range with a reliable and efficient motor.

We were at the Ft Myers Boat Show last year and ran into Wil and Liz, the principals of Beavertail. They were there showcasing a new skiff called the Mosquito that had been introduced just months prior….I immediately knew this was a win for us and talks for the custom build began in November when we went up to Bradenton to see them. I was familiar with the Beavertail line for a while now and it’s classic style always appealed to me. Much of our research included outboard considerations and as luck would have it the Mosquito is paired with the Suzuki 60hp Four Stroke. The Zuke is a perfect combination of weight and power and the performance has exceeded our expectations.

Having spent over 40 years on our waters, another dream of mine was to have a charter business, allowing me to share and teach others about what our amazing state has to offer. This build and purchase ultimately also coincided realizing that dream with the start of our charter business Southern Glades Charters LLC. The Mosquito as a platform for guiding is excellent providing comfort for two guests on a daylong run in the backcountry.
