Drake Boatworks has released a new model called the Outlaw. This is a smaller skiff that’s built for use with 25 to 30 HP tiller control.
The Outlaw is 17.3” long with a 59” beam at the cap. and 2° of deadrise. Estimates put the skiff around 330 pounds before motor.
The Outlaw is built with the same laminate and methods as their Nomad. These guys build a sick boat with a quality that is on par with top builders in the skiff industry and in many cases elevating the level of play by using superior materials in the skiff construction.
More about the skiff build process:
CARBON/INNEGRA OUTER SKIN
- Unlike Kevlar which can absorb moisture, the carbon/Innegra outer skin is oil based in unable to absorb water with the same tear resistance found in Kevlar and similar materials. The added benefit of Innegra is that is helps disperse load, creating a smooth and quiet ride while dampening chop while on the pole.
FULLY CORED WITH CLOSED CELL PVC BASED CORE MAT
- Drake runs the core all the way to the edges and butt all seams together. No gaps. No weak points. No unnecessary glass. Closed Cell PVC core mat does not absorb water and provides immense tensile strength and shear properties.
VACUUM INFUSED WITH EPOXY RESIN
- Epoxy Resin is 3x stronger than industry standard (vinyl-ester), you won’t find a better material for boat building. High resistance to environmental degradation and do not “blister” like Polyester and Vinylester resins when exposed to water.
The sums of the parts equals a skiff of a lifetime.
