Hello all! My name is Annia AKA “Tiny Taster”.

I am 29 years young and a passionate lover of food, love and life. Although I am not much of a fisher-woman, I absolutely love seafood and the water and being out in the wonderful Florida sunshine. I have been food blogging for a little over a year now and in this year I have realized that it is what makes me happiest inside. I love food and I am a writer, so what better way to shine to the world?

I have lived in Florida for most of my life. I love being near water. I find myself to be closest to a “spiritual state” when I am by the sea during a stunning sunrise. When I moved to Orlando about 11 years ago for college, I was worried that I wouldn’t get enough of that. Yes yes, I know… the ocean is only about an hour away. But to me, anything more than a 30 minute drive is torture! I really don’t get out to the water as much as I would like, but the closest I get to experiencing that happiness is through the seafood I find around town. Sometimes I have to hop from store to store, searching for that diamond in the rough. I am lucky to have some amazing places nearby! And sometimes…. yes, sometimes… I find my seafood bliss in Publix.

Rock Shrimp make for a delicious meal.

I fell in love with rock shrimp the day I finally stepped foot in Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. I could not believe that this little, buttery, tender little guy existed and why hadn’t I ever heard of him or shared him with my taste buds?! I mean, just imagine a lobster and a shrimp finding true love in each other and having a baby! That’s one relationship that took way too long to come to be. They’re like the Brad and Jennifer of the waters, except I pray that they stay together forever and ever. Can you believe I found them at Publix? That definitely caught my attention; I’ll be giving Publix more love from now on…. well…. to their “wild” selections at least.

I sauté these gems of the sea with minimal ingredients and very simply. When something is this good, you don’t want to take away from its already perfect flavor. You just want to enhance those flavors with a little zing.

Here’s the rundown…

Servings: 2
Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • .5 lb rock shrimp
  • 1.5 tbsp butter (I use Brummel & Brown)
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley

Directions:

  1. Place your shrimp on a paper towel and pat them dry. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  2. Heat the butter in a medium frying pan on medium-high.
  3. Once the butter is melted you can throw in your shrimp!
  4. Allow for them to sauté without moving them for a minute or two.
  5. Now you can toss the shrimp by flicking up the pan. If you’re new to this flick thing, take some tongs and turn the shrimps individually.
  6. Sprinkle in the lemon juice.
  7. Sprinkle in the parsley.
  8. Toss to coat.

The shrimp will only need about 6-7 minutes total to fully cook. You will know they’re ready by the beautiful pink color they turn as can be seen in the picture above! Be careful, don’t overcook the shrimp or you will be so very sad at the tough texture I served my shrimp with fragrant jasmine rice and some seasoned roasted mushrooms and broccolini.

What a perfect light Florida summer night meal huh? Ok I know it’s not summer yet… but a girl can dream!
