Editor’s Note: What makes not just a “good” boat builder but a “legendary” boat builder?  In two words, passion and commitment.  A passion for excellence and an unequivocal commitment to the people they serve.  In an industry predominantly run by men, East Cape has again demonstrated their willingness to step outside the norm.  This time while working with Blackfly Lodge and Casting for Recovery they have produced a Pink Vantage to raise  awareness for Breast Cancer.  Who does that??  East Cape, that is who!!  We feel it’s an honor to introduce this project and to celebrate such a fantastic way to raise awareness in such a unique way. Keep up the GREAT WORK, gentlemen!    — Tony

Orlando, Florida – East Cape Skiffs, a leader in the customized skiff market, is proud to unveil a first of its kind in the skiff industry; a custom pink skiff for the Blackfly Lodge in Abaco Bahamas. We have built a fleet of custom lodge boats for Blackfly and proud to partner with them along with Casting for Recovery to create a skiff that is about more than just fishing. This beautiful skiff has been dedicated to the fight against breast cancer and to the recovery of women through the sport of fly-fishing.

Clint Kemp, a principal at the Blackfly Lodge in Abaco, Bahamas came to East Cape with an idea for a new skiff that they wanted to add to their already existing fleet. The concept was to create a skiff that visually demonstrated awareness for Breast Cancer. East Cape’s creative team helped bring this idea to reality with the custom coloring of the hull, to the details of a pink ribbon in bows nonskid and under gunnel Sea-Dek.

The inspiration for this project began with Clint’s aunt Rochelle who just recently completed breast cancer treatment in Orlando. The East Cape and Blackfly family along with Casting for Recovery unveiled the Pink skiff in a surprise event with Rochelle. Through tears and laughter the unveiling turned into a great moment of hope and joy for all involved. Rochelle and other survivors attending signed the underside of the boats hatches with pink sharpies to begin a tradition for all who fish the boat in the future.

“Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in women” a reported static from the www.cancer.org webpage. The site also goes onto state that there are over 2.8 million-breast cancer survivors in the United States. “We all know someone affected by cancer and it’s our job to continue to create awareness”, said East Cape Skiff owners Kevin Fenn and Marc Page. “We are grateful to the Blackfly Lodge for giving us this opportunity and look forward to working closely with Casting for Recovery in the future. Their efforts have truly made a difference in our industry!” East Cape has built its reputation on building one of the best custom skiffs on the market. Let us know how we can make your dream a reality.
