Alaska’s waters are known for holding some of the largest halibut on the planet. Any 200- to 300-pound class fish can be classified as a “barn door,” but rarely do you ever see the hallowed 400-pound mark surpassed.

That’s just what happened recently when Michael Clancy fished Chenega Bay and hauled in a shoulder-breaking 405-pound halibut. The huge slab taped out at over 7 and a half feet long. It took Clancy and his friends 25 minutes to bring the large flatfish to boatside.
