Our first step was to locate a Gheenoe.. We found an old gheenoe through a friend that hadn’t been used for years, it was full of leafs and dirt, but we knew with a little hard work it could be the custom gheenoe that we had always wanted at a fraction of the cost.

Once we got the gheenoe and pressure washed it clean we were able to start the rebuild. We had a vision of what we wanted and sketched it out on paper. We knew we wanted a larger front casting deck with plenty of storage and a short back deck for poling/ seat and to hide the gas tank, as well as a false floor. Once we had a the basic plan, we went to work.

Step 1. Remove the seats and and center storage box.

Step 2. Lay the decks out via card board templates.

Step 3. Build stringers and and bulk heads.

Step 4. Glass in stringers and bulk heads.

Step 5. Cut decks and hatches, then coat with resin to seal them from moisture.

Step 6. Install decks and hatches.

Step 7. Float Test

Step 8. Paint decks with non skid paint and repaint the hull.

Step 9. Install bob’s mini jack plate, and hang brand new yamaha 15 stroke.

Step 10. GO FISH!!!

When were we finished we had the custom gheenoe we wanted!

The boat had a total of 6 hatches to keep everything separate, as well as keeping the hatches stiff. The front hatch was used for a trolling motor battery/ anchor hold to add weight up front. The boat had shotgun style rod holders, so the angler in front could easily grab a rod. We also added a cooler in the center for a jump seat.

This boat was an awesome shallow water/ back country fishing machine that was great to pole, as well as being able to take us back deep into areas where only kayaks could reach. In the end the boat was on the heavy side as my father likes to over build everything lol, but it was stiff as a board and it didn’t flex like a normal gheenoe would, which was awesome.

Doing rebuild is always an awesome experience in the End… sometimes you will questions yourself why are you doing it, but in the end you get the boat YOU want and it is a great way to bring friends and family together!!!
