Jim Engskow from Fort Lauderdale set Skiff Life’s Trick My Skiff discussion group on fire with his awesome overnight skiff fishing camping tip using a custom rigged hammock. As Jim describes he sets an aluminum pipes in the deck rod holders and then runs straps thru a hole in the end of the pipe that hooks to the bow tow eye. To guarantee strength, Divincell was used to reinforce the rod holder by pulling the foam, taping it up and filling with epoxy. The rod holder is then reinstalled with stainless steel bolts and a ¼” backer plate. The majority of the stress is transferred to the forward tow eye. Jim ordered straps from strapworks.com where he could specify color and length. All hardware was stainless steel.
**EDITOR’S NOTE: We’d HIGHLY recommend not skipping these steps. There is NO REASON to damage your skiff for a nights sleep and if you plan on camping on your skiff (and this certainly makes it more appealing) then you should do it right.
Some discussion occurred as to preferred hammock by the members. Eagles Nest Outfitters while more expensive appeared to be the favorite hammock but Ticket to the Moon also was a favorite and saved a few dollars when purchased from Go Loaded for Bear.
