Fishing for Tarpon in the Florida Keys

Tarpon migrate all over Florida and the prime time for fishing for them in the Keys is usually April-June but can be had all summer usually. This time period is also considered “out of tourist season” so you also enjoy fishing & boating via less boat traffic to compete with. Capt. Paul says he usually catches big tarpon up to the last week in August consistently. Don’t discount juvenile tarpon on light tackle, they are an absolute blast and extremely acrobatic. Very exciting. The summer heat usually calls for an early morning and in by noon although Capt. Paul is known to stay out longer if the fish are biting. Capt. Paul prefers to fish tarpon in the early morning and then takes you to the ocean side flats to target monster Tarpon or Permit. Fishing in the Florida Keys is some of the best fishing of the year.
