You won’t find a cooler species of Saltwater Fish than the Flying Fish. These neat creatures appear as part fish, part bird with their ability to take to the air with giant leaps out of the water and use large fins as wings similar to a glider. This behavior is a defense mechanism intended to evade perceived predators. If you fish nearshore or offshore you can easily scare a school of these with your boat as well. Scroll farther down to see an epic video captured of Flying Fish fighting for their lives. You’ll easily see why these saltwater fish are so skittish.

In honor of these magical creatures, world renowned marine artist Randy McGovern has released new artwork called “Flight to Survive. The artwork captures one of the ocean’s most tenacious, aggresive predators, the Mahi – Mahi (also called Dolfin or Dorado) hunting down a flying fish. The vibrant blues and greens found in the Mahi as he breaches the ocean in hot pursuit of the Flying Fish captures the epic scene played out in nature daily between these two species. Available exclusively by Skiff Life, a Mahi Dolphin Fishing Decal and a Fishing Shirt is available.

The shirts come on Skiff Life’s best quality moisture wicking performance fishing shirt. These revolutionary fishing shirts offer a full UPF/SPF +50 Solar Protection and actually “wick” away sweat into the fabric to keep you cooler. Skiff Life searched for almost 3 years and a dozen different shirt manufacturers to find a shirt that performed to their specifications. Even better? All of these shirts are pressed right here in the U.S.A.
